RPG Questions:
Why don't the RPG pages get updated that often?
Basic/Miscellaneous Stuff
"Can I ask you something?"
Uhh...You just did. Why do people ask this? WHY?!?!
"Where do I sign up for the RPG?"
O_O ?? I want, I want, I want a gigantic 2x4... Read the main page in the big bold letters!!
"Can you send me ______?"
No. There's a reason why we have things called web pages with things called content, go download it yourself. Us emailing it to you will not make you magickally not have to download it.
"Can I send you (really big media file)?"
Yes, BUT, please ask us first. We're not really sure what the maximum file size is for our email server, so that way we can make sure that all our other junk is downloaded so there'll be plenty of space for you to send us that 20 minute long MPEG. Also, you will want to make sure that your email service allows you to send large attachments, otherwise you could end up wasteing half an hour only to have your email denied by your service. You may want to stuff (.sit) or zip (.zip) your files before sending them. Note: Please make sure that the file is ATTACHED to the email and not pasted or inserted into the actual message part of the email. We will not be able to view the file and you would have wasted your time for uploading it and our time to download something that we can't even see (and sometimes not even know is there).
"I love your site. How can I help it be even better?"
You can submit anything on the Submission Policy page, such as fan related material, or anything else like comments on what can be improved, become a regular in the forum (get your friends to become a regular in the forum is good too :) ), or if you want to go the whole nine yards, fill out a staff submission (see the next couple questions down about it.).
"When is the poll updated? The poll is updated on the 1st of every month. If the 1st falls on a weekend, expect a new one exactly at 12:00:00 AM EST. If not, then wait until later that afternoon. If you want, you may submit a poll question, try to make it DB and RPG related. Or, you may relate it to some big fiasco that's going on, such as the stupid voting crap in Florida.
"I am an over-protective parent, do you have a privacy statement? Yep. Check out the Privacy Policy page. Chock full 'o pointless crap that makes us look like we know what we're doing.
"When do you guys plan to update next?" The next time that the Moon, the Sun, and Jupiter are aligned in such a way that we will awaken from hibernation and use the computer. Seriously, we have no idea. It's usually like a spur of the moment kinda thing. But you can expect the poll and SOTM page to be updated on the 1st of every month.
"I found a broken link, can I go on an all-out flaming and hate-filled email rampage?" Only if you allow us to come to your house and beat you senseless without mercy. Just email us the page that the broken link is on, and which file it is (the file name (ssjrpg.net/file.jpg) and file description) and we will correct it right away.
"I can't find the answer to (question here) on the site or the FAQ?"
Make sure you read the FAQ over thoroughly, look for sections that would have the most to do with your question, try using the search thing up top, go to the forum and ask there, or contact us using email, AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), or ICQ about it. Note: If you do decide to use AIM or ICQ, please tell us that you came from this site, that way we'll do our best to help you. I, for one, don't like it when random people message me and I have no idea where the hell they came from, I'm paranoid, sue me.
SSJRPG/Web site Related Questions
"Can you link to my site?"
Sure, our Links page is pretty small... But please just be considerate to everyone. If your site doesn't offer anything worth seeing, then the people who go to your site will hate it and leave, when you feel your site is ready, then email one of us the link with the subject header: Link Submission. If your subject is "DBZ Rocks!" and you're submitting a link, it just causes confusion when we archive our email. If we link to it, we will post that the Links page has been updated and will msotly likely reply to you saying so.
"Can I link to your site?"
Umm... Why even bother asking? Go right ahead, we won't stop ya!! But if you want, drop one of us a line so we can see your site, and maybe we'll link to you, too. ^_^
"Can I link files off of your site? Puh-leeeez?"
No. Doing so will be punishible by death or extreme public humiliation. I don't care how good our stuff is. By doing so, you are increasing bandwidth... that's bad. That means that our loading times are going up because you were too lazy to upload a file by yourself, plus the possibility that our host may decide to boot us if SSJRPG is causing bandwidth problems. Just ask us exactly what file(s) you want to include on your site, we'll tell you that you may only take a few things (few = 3), upload the file(s) to your server, and put somewhere on that page that the file(s) will be on it saying it was from us with a link.
"How can I join your staff?"
Check out the Staff page for instructions. Do not stalk us on AIM or ICQ if we don't reply to it. If we don't reply to it, there's probably a reason why. If there was an error, you would get an email saying so. PLEASE do not re-submit it over and over and then ask both of us and other staff members about it, we'll just hate you that much more.
"Will you affiliate with my site?"
Just send an email to one of us with the name of your site, the URL, and a nice message to go along would be nice. If we do, we'll reply. If not, then you may never hear from us... that is NOT an invitation to start emailing us everyday with your link, we will tell your email service provider that you are harassing us and they will terminate your account ^_^ .
"Will you host my site?"
See the Get Hosted! page. If you can't find the link to the page with the hosting form, then you aren't reading the hosting pages that have legal information that you should read and know before asking to be hosted by ANY web site. If we do not reply, do NOT re-submit your submission, if you read the hosting pages, you would know that we will not reply to all submissions and why we don't. If there was an error with the form or an error with the email, you would either get an alert message in your browser or an email from your mail daemon saying so. Use the hosting form for submissions, unless you got an error with the form, then follow the insctructions in the bold blue on the form page.
"Could you help me out with HTML, Javascript, CSS, CGI, etc.?"
While we could make a gigantic section on web development, there are already lots of quailty sites that do more than we could ever do. Go to the pro's for help, such as HTMLGoodies for practically everything you could ever want for web development help. If you still can't get what you want, go to the forums and post in the 'General Crap' forum, there's lots of us who know about web development in there. We won't answer emails about it, sorry.
"Could you make me a layout for my site?"
If it's a personal web site such as this, no. It is very time consuming. You could use a WYSIWYG editor (What You See Is What You Get), such as Netscape Composer, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe GoLive, PageSpinner, or if you want to make a very ugly and non-functional page: Microsoft Front Page. Contrary to what the name implies, most of the time, what you see is not what you get. Or, you may drop Chaos a line, he makes and sells layouts. If you are producing a commercial web site and want a professional layout, drop either of us (SS3 GokouX or Chaos). Then we can discuss the terms and such, such as what you want, what your company offers, and price.
"What application do you use for making images/graphics?"
We both use Adobe Photoshop, Chaos uses 4.0, SS3 GokouX uses 6.0. Photoshop is a real professional, top-of-the-line graphics application. It's expensive though (the full verison of 6.0 costs about $550-600 US.), however, Adobe has a much cheaper version: Photoshop LE (Limited Edition), which is good, but can't do some really cool stuff.
"What application do you use for making animated gif's?"
Macromedia Fireworks 2, Adobe Image Styler 1, and Gif Builder 0.5 & 1. GifBuilder is a Mac only app, the others can be found on Mac and Windoze.
"What do you use for making web pages?"
We both code in straight HTML. You can use any plain text editor to do that with such as SimpleText or BBEdit Lite (Mac) or NotePad (Windows). Occasionally Chaos is lazy and uses FrontPage...traitor... But eventually everything is optimized in a text editor before it's uploaded. Then after that's all done, we test the pages in various browsers such as Netscape Communicator 4.5.x & 4.7.x, Netscape PR 6, & Netscape 6 (final), Microsoft Internet Exploder 4.5, 5.0, & 5.5, and iCab PR 1.x & 2.x.
"What do you use for the movie/sound clips?"
For movie clips, QuickTime 4 and PR5 were used for the clips currently on this site at the time of writing. Anything later will be made using QuickTime Player and Media Cleaner 4 Pro. Sound clips (waves) were recored by SimpleText and wave'ed using QuickTime 4. If we ever decide to put up mp3's, they will be recorded and encoded by iTunes (Mac only).
"Anything else?"
SS3 GokouX the Mac fiend has a G3 running at 400 MHz and a happy cable modem. He plans on overclocking it to at least 500 MHz one day ("It can handle it, I know it can!" -SS3. pfft.) If anything, he'll get an iBook or an older PowerBook G3 because 12 hours of driving with nothing but a MD (minidisk, duh, get with the times!) player is really boring. By then again, that Titanium PowerBook G4 is drop dead sexy for a laptop... ($2,599!?!?) But this is all assuming that he'll have a positive cash fund, which is total blatent bull. By the time he has that kinda money, he'll just buy a processor upgrade card (so many choices...). Chaos has a Compaq 5304 with a Cyrix M II processor running at an unknown speed, supposedly it's overclocked ("crappy system" -Chaos). He keeps saying he's gonna get a dual G4, but then again, he's been saying that he's gonna install Linux for the longest time... For more server-related app's, SS3 GokouX uses Transmit 1.5.1, Chaos uses WS FTP Pro to FTP the files onto the GameShadow server. For telnet, Chaos uses Telnet (included with Windoze 95), "Mac boy" uses NCSA Telnet 2.6.
DB Questions
"When is Cartoon Network going to show new episodes?"
Cartoon network has bought 77 episodes which comprise the 4th Season. These episodes contain the entire Jinzonigen Saga ("Android" Saga) and assumingly the entire Cell and Cell Game Saga. These episodes are shown weekdays Monday through Thursday on Cartoon Network's Toonami (everything on that channel is a 'toon, and Toonami is not anime-only. What gives?!) block at 5 PM EST. You can also see is during their Midnight Run block I think, and also their Rising Sun block. When they finish airing new episodes, it's assumed that they will endlessly play re-runs until they buy the next batch of episodes from FUNimation. The next batch will be the Heaven's Tournament saga (FUNi will call it mini-saga), which will be a tease for fans because it's a TOEI produced mini-saga, just like the Garlic Jr. mini-saga. As of this writing, FUNi is casting voices for the next season, which will kick off with the Great Saiyaman Saga and end somewhere during the Majin Buu Saga I believe. Unless they go half-assed and go up to the end of the Tenka-Ichi Bodukai Saga and make the Buu Saga the 7th Season.
"When will the the tapes and DVD's be available?"
I believe Pioneer distributes the VHS tapes and DVD's (that means they sell them, not make them) so it all depends on how long it takes for them to get the episodes (dubbed, the much-editted "uncut," and the subtitled) from FUNi, make some campy box art, and then mass produce them. The DVD's should theorectically take longer to release, but the DVD's are better so they may focus more production energies on the DVD's. So it's really near impossible to say... Online sellers like Amazon.com get proposed release dates from Pioneer, but those are predictions, accidents happen, tape gets shredded, film is "lost" *cough*stolen*cough*, etc. So, just pray yourself to sleep that the release dates are right.
"Where can I find the dub, "uncut," subbed, etc.?"
Anime stores and comic shops (some cool ones have a little anime shrine in a corner). Those usually have the original, may it be subtitled in English or w/o. You can also find the cool, untainted version from online fansub dealers, just go to a search engine and look it up. As for the "legal" dub and the editted "uncut" version, found on VHS and DVD, you can find them at online retailers such as Amazon.com, FUNimation's web site, Sun Coast, Blockbuster, etc. The DVD's also have the dub and the digital subtitled versions on it, so those are good, too.
"How many episodes/movies are there?"
There's three series, each one has a different amount of episodes and movies. Dragon Ball: 153 episodes and 3 or 4 movies (depends how you look at it...). Dragon Ball Z: 291 episodes, 13 movies, and 2 television specials (Trunks and Bardock). Dragon Ball GT: 64 episodes and 0 (zero) movies.
"What? Dragon Ball is from Japan?" or "I'm new to DB, where can I find some quick info about it?"
-_- ... Just go here. Second part: Go there.
"What's the difference between the episodes and the mangas?"
The mangas (Japanese for comic) were released before the episodes. No, this does not mean that once they mangas were finished, they made it into a TV show. They airred them simultaneously. The mangas were released monthly and the episodes were released weekly. So, 1 manga roughly equaled 4 episodes, although there are times when it's different. The mangas were generally a month or two (sometimes more) ahead of the episodes. So Gohan may be a high school student in the latest manga, but he's still fighting Cell in the episodes. The mangas were each 181 pages long, plus some neat-o pin-ups for the next few pages, and a brief introduction of the story and main characters (of that specific issue) in the beginning of the book. They were black and white, and one part would be in multiple shades of grey (I prefer the plain 2-color blank and white). They were also in Japanese, however, some companies translated them into Cantonese and other languages (and no censoring). The episodes had the ability to be more detailed, so you would see more fighting and scenery in the episodes, which the manga was mostly talking and full page frames of something special (such as a large attack or new character). However, practically every frame in the mangas were reproduced in the episodes, that's always nifty. Oh, all this applies for Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. DBGT was made as a TV show and then later was reproduced as a manga.
"What's the difference between the Japanese and the US episodes?"
Lots. Besides the obvious different language and crappy voices (*sticks out tongue and makes gagging sounds*), there's much more. Blood (or oil) and gore is removed almost completely. The music is comepletely different. This is a prime reason why newer isn't always best. There's numerous name changes (people, items, attacks, etc. see the next question), body changes (when something is exposed (genitals) or revealed too much (cleavage)). Removed material, where they delete parts (occasionally they are quite vital to the plot...) due to "time constraints." Although the average episode is usually only 20 minutes... You can't forget the lame jokes they include here and there to make you remember that you are watching a piss-poor job of an American show. Leave the damn Japanese jokes in there, culture is a good thing, especially since today's kiddies are quite dumb. No offense... And last but not least, horrid translations. Example: "Instantaneous Movement" suddenly means "Instant Transmission" in English? I will respect the fact that the meaing of the word "transmission" is roughly the same thing as teleportation, although you don't normally transmit one's self...
"U spelt goku rawng u dumm hed!" a.k.a. "What's the real spelling of _____?"
Ok, here's the deal. Japanese was not intended to be spelled in Romantic script. When FUNi dubbed the show, they, being a dumb corporate company, didn't bother to watch the series. They just kinda scrawled out some chicken scratch and called it "Goku." They changed the names of people, places, planets, entities, attacks/techniqees, items, and more. Not only the names, but the spellings, too. Some spellings are acceptable because letters are pronounced differently (not to mention that Japanese has no 26-character alphabet...). Example: Vejita. The V and B sounds are pronounced very similar in Japanese, so Vejita could be spelled Bejita. And also Vegeta, Begeta, Vegita, Begita... Although you do see every character's name written in English during the series (on hats, shirts, jackets, scannings, computers, etc.). FUNi goes along and ignores all this and makes spellings like Frieza, Krillen, Tien, Special Beam Cannon, K-O Cannon, etc. One day we'll make a page devoted to this answer, although it would be a giant waste of time... Here's some common ones: Goku: Gokou, Gokuu Vegeta: Vejita, Vegita, Bejita, Begita, Begeta,... Krillen/Krillin: Kuririn, Kuririn Special Beam Cannon: Makkankousappou (Something about spiral, double something or other...) Frieza: Freezer, Fureeza
"How many levels of SSJ are there?"
This is explained on the Saiyajin Forms page.
"What's the order of the SSJ levels, who can do it, who did it first, and how did they do it?" - Excluding Movies
Here's the full name, abbreviations, and the order the people did:
Super Saiyajin (SSJ, SSJ1): Gokou, Vejita, Gohan, Trunks, Goten, Gotenks. Technically the Legenedary SSJ, but let's not get into that. Mirai Trunks did it when he was about 10-13, so chronilogically, he did it after Gohan.
Ultra Super Saiyajin (USSJ): Vejita/Trunks (we find out they can do it at the same time, we actually see Vejita do it first, then Trunks does it later), Gokou, Cell (he has a lot of Saiyajin cells).
Super Saiyajin Two (SSJ2): Gohan, Gokou, Majin Vejita.
Super Saiyajin Three (SSJ3): Gokou, Gotenks
Super Saiyajin Four (SSJ4): Gokou, Vejita. It is possible to skip SSJ3 since SSJ4 is a whole different ball park. Gohan does not do it, that is a fan art of him. As for the "how," check out the Character Bio's page for that.
"Why don't you write about SSJ5?"
Because it doesn't exist. If it did, it would have bene on the Saiyajin Forms page long, long ago. And don't listen to your "reliable sources" (a.k.a. "friends"), they are begin fooled and are fooling you, too.
"Are there any other Dragon Ball series in the works, like DBAF, DB Neo, or DBX?"
No. There are none in the works in Japan (or any other country) nor is there any plans of such. If you hear about them, they are rumors. You know how some people make parodies or continuations of things, kinda like Wierd Al does? That's what most of these rumors come from. For instance, Dragon Ball AF is a doujinshi (fan manga), it is drawn, written, and produced by fans of the series who love it so much that they don't want to believe that it's over, so they "continue" it to help ease their pain. If it "looks" like Toriyama's work, that means nothing, it's very easy to copy someone else's drawing style, and this is coming from a fellow artist.
RPG Questions
"Why don't the RPG pages get updated that often?"
You obviously dont understand how much stuff is in one single game. For isnatnce, listing all the items in a game is very annoying. VERY annoying. Laziness is a prime factor why stuff doesn't get done here ^_^ Hey, if you think you can do a better job, staff submissions are always welcome. Besides, whenever we do post a new RPG game section, it is usually quite big and complete. Of course, for some games (such as FF9-11), we don't have much info on because we don't have them yet. So, we'd be lying if we posted any thing about them.
Uhh... you guys like to keep quiet for the RPG sections, that's good and bad... good because not many morons like RPG's and email stupid emails, bad because not enough input. Ugh, alright I'm done, this page is big... |
